DCCG Chairperson interview with Ocean FM

1. I totally agree that beaches belong to the people, they should never be built on.
2. But there are other economical reasons as well that this should not go ahead:
- Knock is in the vicinity - why not use it? make it a train station of the Western Rail Corridor!
But even with a car it is only a 30-40 minutes drive.
- Strandhill Airport needs lots of subsidies, maybe to many if you ask the ordinary taxpayer - just remember Michael O’Leary’s recent comments.
- Strandhill as a resort would be damaged by pollution and noise of more aircraft - what about tourism business then?
- even Dublin Airport (or Shannon) is a good option once those airports could be reached by train - why not use the money for building the necessary infrastructure?
